Aeration of your lawn is an important process. Without proper aeration, the compact soil around grass roots will prevent your grass from getting the oxygen, water and nutrients it needs to stay strong, lush and healthy. Marks Pacific NW Inc is the Tacoma area's grass, lawn and landscaping specialist, and we have years of experience in keeping lawns looking great.
Aeration consists of punching small holes throughout your lawn to allow water, oxygen and nutrients to seep down into the soil and nourish your grass. By reducing compaction, aeration of your lawn also serves to reduce thatch build-up, improves rooting and makes your lawn less susceptible to weeds, pesky insects, drought and a variety of damaging diseases.
Marks Pacific NW Inc recommends seasonal lawn aeration for all established lawns. Aeration should also be performed on soil prior to seeding or turfing, but it is not recommended to aerate newly laid turf as the process is often unnecessary added stress to the newly transplanted turf.
While aeration isn't necessarily a complicated process, in order to be effective (and not damaging), it needs to be performed properly. Too much aeration will only serve to crumple soil and damage your grass, and not enough aeration will be ineffective in ensuring that your grass gets enough nutrients. Marks Pacific NW Inc always recommends that you consult with an expert landscaping company and trust trained and experienced landscapers to aerate your soil. Having an expert taking care of this important step not only helps ensure that it is done properly, it also allows us to make further recommendations, such as fertilizing your lawn, or giving you our expert advice on whether or not it is getting enough water.
Aeration of your lawn yields better results when performed in early spring, late summer or early fall. Many of our customers prefer the latter option, as your lawn will look a little rough for a few weeks after the process. Aerating in early fall means that your lawn will grow strong and green as soon as the snow melts.
